HAMILTON ALLERGY, ASTHMA AND SINUS CENTER INFORMATION FOR NEW PATIENTS
Here you will find information for new allergy patients, including accepted insurance providers and downloadable insurance forms to complete prior to your first visit. If you can’t find the answers to a specific question or concern you may have, please feel free to contact our office. A member of our staff will be happy to assist you.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT
Dr. Lateef will complete a patient history involving an assessment of your allergy symptoms, a relevant physical exam and a thorough environmental evaluation. He will also conduct a skin test/allergy test to determine your specific allergens (Common allergens include dust mites, pollens, mold and pet dander). The skin test will evaluate both inhalant allergens and food allergens.
PRE-ALLERGY TESTING
You will need to stop all allergy or sinus medication (including pills and liquids) for at least 7 days prior to your visit. These medicines can interfere with the allergy test and create inconclusive results.
Nose sprays, inhalers and nebulizers can be continued.
Eye drops, specifically for treating eye allergy, should be stopped 2 days before your visit.
Medicines for allergy problems that are taken by mouth, such as antihistamines, over-the-counter sinus, cough and cold medicines, and Singulair, need to be stopped.
Medicines for conditions other than allergy, including antibiotics, DO NOT need to be stopped.
If you take several medicines and are afraid to stop or change them, continue them for now. During your first visit with Dr. Lateef, he can review your medicines and make adjustments so that you can control your symptoms and still allow allergy testing to be done at your next visit.
